CAROL KLINE
Carol Kline is a Tourism Professor at Appalachian State University and the Executive Director for Where Animals Matter. Her research focuses on animal ethics and animal protection in tourism, and she teaches Animals, Tourism, & Sustainability. Carol serves on the boards of Arthropoda and the Culture & Animals Foundation, and as an advisor to Rissa Citizen Science and to Vegan Hospitality. She recently earned a Master’s degree in Animal Law & Policy from Lewis & Clark University, and founded Where Animals Matter, a nonprofit reshaping tourism sectors to increase animal protection systemwide.
Where Animals Matter is a nonprofit organization dedicated to accelerating animal protection within the tourism industry whether that is wild animals in the wild, wild animals in captivity, working animals, farmed animals, and animals exploited for tourist souvenirs. As an $11 trillion annual industry, tourism can be a lever for change toward a world that doesn’t harm animals. We work with tour operators, travel advisors, destination marketers, travel trade associations, and booking platforms to amplify the care, protection, and conservation of animals.
