Amazing Animals in Scientific Collections

The 95-year-old Institute of Biology serves as a foundation and nerve center for understanding the animals that inhabit Mexico, as well as the measures implemented for their long-term conservation. This event seeks to highlight the role our scientific collections play in the study, understanding, and protection of little-known, rare, and generally labeled "uncharismatic" animals. We will organize two main activities:

(1) Keynote Lecture
A female researcher, a leader in the study of animals and the use of scientific collections will give this talk.

(2) "My Favorite Specimen" Lightning Talks (two sessions, 1 hour each)
Short talks about a unique specimen that the speaker considers very special from the Zoology Department collections. It should have a fascinating story to tell and inspire wonder, emotion, or empathy in the audience. Why is this specimen your favorite or crucial for research, dissemination, or scientific outreach? What makes it particularly important? What research has been conducted on it? No more than three slides may be used in the five-minute presentation.
