SOCIAL MEDIA TOOLKIT

Social media is one of the most powerful tools we can use in helping animals. A single post can reach further, faster and wider than almost any other action. Every year on October 4, World Animal Day reaches over 50 million people online, as advocated from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe unite to celebrate and speak up for the animals that we share our planet with.

When used well, social media can educate, mobilise and hold people to account for animal welfare issues worldwide. But it’s worth remembering that not everyone uses it responsibly. Some content cruelly exploits animals under the guise of “rescue” or entertainment, so it’s worth knowing how to spot and report such posts as you find your own voice.

Remember that #WorldAnimalDay isn’t just a hashtag. Whether you’re posting, sharing, or going a step further and organising your own event, this toolkit will help you make the most of it. From understanding what the day is all about, to planning your content, sharing your message and following up once it’s done to ensure that the movement stems beyond a hashtag.
